About Us
The story behind ash-shifa.org — a lifetime devoted to Unani medicine, herbal healing, and carrying a centuries-old tradition into the hands of a new generation.
Hakim Abdul Rahman
Peace be upon you. My name is Hakim Abdul Rahman, and for more than two decades I have devoted my life to the practice, study, and preservation of Unani medicine — the science of natural healing that has passed through the hands of physicians for over a thousand years.
I founded ash-shifa.org out of a simple conviction: that traditional wisdom deserves a place in modern life, and that healing rooted in nature, balance, and faith should be accessible to everyone who seeks it.
What follows is a little of my journey — how I came to this path, what shaped my understanding, and the hopes I carry for the future of this tradition.
A Professional Journey
Each milestone along the way deepened my commitment to natural, temperament-based healing.
First steps under a senior hakim
Began an informal apprenticeship, learning to identify herbs, grind compounds, and read temperament by hand and pulse.
Qualified in Unani Medicine & Surgery
Completed formal training (BUMS), grounding clinical practice in the classical theory of the four humours.
Opened a first community clinic
Established a small clinic offering temperament-based diagnosis, herbal regimens, and dietary guidance.
Postgraduate study & herbal pharmacy
Pursued advanced study in Moalajat (medicine) and built a dedicated pharmacy preparing remedies in-house.
Mentoring & community education
Began teaching younger practitioners and holding open sessions on natural wellness and Prophetic remedies.
Founded ash-shifa.org
Launched this platform to document herbs, share remedies, and make traditional healing accessible online.
A History with Unani Medicine
My first lessons in healing came not from a lecture hall but from the home I grew up in. The scent of black seed, fennel, and dried herbs was part of everyday life, and I watched my elders prepare simple remedies with patience and care.
As I grew older, that early curiosity became a calling. I was drawn to the philosophy behind Unani — the four humours, the idea of mizaj (temperament), and the conviction that true healing restores balance rather than merely silencing symptoms.
For over twenty-five years I have studied the classical texts of Ibn Sina, Al-Razi, and the great hakims who carried this knowledge through the Islamic Golden Age — and worked to keep that living tradition relevant for the people who walk through my door today.
Educational Background
Formal study in classical and clinical Unani medicine, complemented by hands-on training in herbal pharmacy and regimental therapy.
BUMS
A full degree in classical and clinical Unani medicine, covering anatomy, physiology of the humours, diagnosis, and treatment.
MD (Unani)
Advanced clinical training in the management of chronic conditions through Unani principles.
Ilmul Advia
Specialised study of medicinal herbs (advia) — their temperaments, preparation, dosage, and safe combination.
Regimental Therapy
Trained in traditional regimental therapies including cupping (hijama), and dietary & lifestyle correction.
Experience in Herbal & Traditional Healing
Years of clinical practice have taught me that the most lasting healing comes from listening closely, prescribing gently, and respecting the body's own balance.
From a small clinic to a fully stocked herbal pharmacy, my practice has always centred on the patient as a whole person — their temperament, their diet, their daily life — rather than a single complaint.
A Vision for the Future
My hope is for ash-shifa.org to become a trusted home for natural healing — where the wisdom of Unani and Prophetic medicine is preserved faithfully, shared freely, and made useful for the next generation.
